The fourth generation of the Prius is even more efficient – Reuters

In advance of the world premiere in Frankfurt, Toyota had unveiled the fourth generation of the Prius in Las Vegas (it will also exhibit at the Tokyo Motor Show in October). Sales will snap later this year, initially in Japan and then embrace all the remaining major international markets (price to be determined, 1.8 petrol engine combined with an electric motor).

The hybrid par excellence (in business for almost 20 years with over 3.5 million units registered ) is the first Toyota to be developed on the new modular architecture Global Group (will be also used by future Camry and Corolla) that provides for the reduction of costs and the use of common components for different models of the House.

The fourth series of Prius is more than 6 cm long and 2 cm lower than the previous generation, but also promises to be more efficient between 10% and 20% thanks use of lighter components as part of its hybrid system. According to Toyota, it will greatly improve the pleasure and fun to drive, always with maximum quietness. Among the technological innovations, outstanding debut (optional) Toyota Safety Sense system that includes various driver assistance systems, including the device pre-collision with pedestrians, radar cruise control and the recognition of the excess of involuntary lane of travel.

The fourth generation is called to replicate the success of the previous series and Toyota rely heavily on the US market where in fact the whole family Prius deliveries were down 17% in the first eight months of this’ year for a total of 125 830 units. After the debut of the new Prius, Toyota will launch a version Eco and even more efficient than standard, although the details will be revealed later.
