Trieste, reborn Home “ribaltada” by tram PHOTOS – The Small

TRIESTE The tram continues to stop and start again for the usual problems, and there are those who return to live in the house, a century ago, the tramway gutted. Was the September 9, 1902 , the Trieste Austrian coast inaugurated the Electrische Bahn Scorcola-Trieste-Opicina , born as the first connection between the high and the low part of the city.

If not that, only a month and a day after, something went wrong and the tram, you know, did a bang. “Zo Vignindo for Scorcola ‘na casa el ga fore”, remember the following notes of the tune of Carlo Schmidl 1916, which condemned forever tram remember his unfortunate debut.

He continued in the years to wobble on the tracks, for a while ‘still, for a while’ adjusted, still can not come. On that Friday, October 10 the fate of s’incrociò home with the tram that derailed, hit one or two wooden poles of the air duct, the point of which fell on the corner of the country today with Civic in via di Romagna, “so – said the Police Commissioner Pertot – you could see the furniture in the bedroom. “

Perhaps for an insufficient amount of sand poured on the track, too wet with dew and slippery, or because of the not entirely functioning brakes, as had hypothesized The Small at the time, or even to an irregularity in the administration of the electrical energy, it does not matter, the truth was that the Austro-Hungarian Empire technological innovations had failed.

And “the ‘poor frenador” if it was given to their heels, jumping down before the half was going to crash. Information, these and later reconstructed by Michele Grison , author of the book dedicated to “The house tram de Opcina” released even with Il Piccolo.

After the incident, the house was restored and were subsequently performed other work in the ’60s. But the building was not born “wretch” as the tram, proven by the fact that it took less time to return to his feet. Now, after several years of neglect, it has a new owner who has made contemporary and, at the same time, returned the ‘ “allure” of farm house, a feature that distinguishes the original structures of Scorcola township high.

Built on two levels, mixed karst stone, with a small but lovely garden, the building, which at the time of the incident was made up of two buildings, now put on purpose in light of the restoration, it existed even before the rails. And belonged until 2012, when the current owner bought it, the Spechar , family history of the suburb, which in turn had acquired in 1860 by Gherlanz .

It took three years for the recent restoration by an architectural firm from Trieste and some polishing is yet to be completed, but meanwhile the owner, as well as in love with the area of the house, has finally started to enjoy it. The project was able to keep in shape the story of the origins of the same house and the neighborhood, returning at the same time building a contemporary interior.

Parallel has had the specific sensitivity to reuse some of the original materials, starting from the bearing masonry left in sight or, for example, the stone internal stairs preserved to build external ones. Or the garden floor covering made from the elements of the demolished roof, wooden floors on the upper floors made from old beams and the sink in the main bathroom Aurisina stone used before in the garden.

The restoration, despite the rustic establishment, does not renounce to the technological innovations for comfort and energy savings, even if they are only visible solar panels for water heating. Finally, the binary structure of the tram rails inspired interior details in metal profiles playing with glassy transparency of the windows, the loft and the staircase. To feel better “the Bora that comes and goes” and see the world “that if ga limelight.”
