Evoque Convertible, the DNA is a true Range Rover – The Press

If the Range Rover Evoque has become the trendy symbol between the luxury compact SUV, its evolution Convertible (already orderable and available in Italy from June) further raises the bar by adding the pleasure of traveling in 4 in the open. “It is the first convertible in its segment – says the head of design, Gerry McGovern – a truly model for all seasons that further enhances the appeal of the Evoque and makes it even more desirable.”

Not surprisingly the twin discovery of SUV coupe was presented in Courchevel , the coolest ski resort of Savoy, a kingdom of ostentatious luxury which sports tracks inviting, with climbs and breathtaking descents. Of those mundane snows, the convertible has offered an essay of its off-road capability. The performance is the same as the Evoque ‘normal’ , which has become the best-selling car of the entire Land Rover range and collecting 178 awards in total, at the end of February, to 506,657 registrations .

It was not easy “decapottare” a car that right in the sloping roof was the main source of fascination, however, the operation is happily failed. The canvas hood (in 5 sound-absorbing layers that ensure perfect acoustic and thermal insulation) opens in 18 seconds and closes electrically in 21 , with no manual intervention. And when it is located in the rear still leaves 251 liters available for luggage, with a passing space for bulky items such as skis or golf clubs.

Without the roof, the structural rigidity was not penalized , due to the frame reinforced with steel bars. And the proven Terrain Response allows evolution in off-road height of the DNA that has made the British brand of Tata today. Just press a button and the cabrio does everything by itself, uphill and downhill up to 30 km per hour with the All Terrain Progress Control ; but if you want to play, the 4×4 system, which is standard, allows virtuosity (almost) no limits. All-wheel drive is switched off by itself when its use is superfluous. The technological equipment includes Torque Vectoring by Braking limiting understeer acting on the brake calipers, and the assistant to the parking lot with 360 °. Two roll-bars which appear necessary in 90 milliseconds optimize the anti-tilt system protecting all the occupants.

The Baby Range Convertible is available in 2 trim levels (SE and HSE Dynamic) and 3 turbo engines : Ingenium 2.0 Diesel 150 and 180 hp (380 and 430 Nm, 180 and 195 km / h, average fuel consumption of 5.7 liters) and 2.0Si V6 240 hp petrol (340 Nm, 209 km / h, 8.6 liters per 100 km). Prices start at € 53,400 and rise to 56,400 for the more powerful TD and 57,400 for the petrol version. Standard 9-speed automatic transmission. Among the changes, a efficient multimedia system InControl Touch with the central display with 10.2 “is operated as a tablet and ensures maximum connectivity with built-in hotspot feature. The navigator has a street view 360 ° and also allows you to consult weather forecasts updated to defend against sudden disturbances: just close the soft top.
