A robot may soon steal our jobs. That’s why – Tiscali.it

The science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in his book Abyss Steel , envisions a future hyper technology where robots replace humans in ever more advanced work activities. And precisely because of this, among humans it grows a strong aversion to machines. The American novelist prophecy could become a reality. According to a study presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos within the next four years the advance of robotics and artificial intelligence will lead to the loss of more than 5 million jobs in 15 countries. The activities will be most affected in the administrative sector where increasingly intelligent machines will carry out routine functions.

Forrester Research: in the US burned more than 9 million jobs – An alarm similar was launched by Forrester Research that the increasing use of robots in the US alone will lead to a net loss of well 9.1 million jobs over the next 10 years. Forrester uses a broad sense of robots as they fall not just in the narrow sense but also the artificial intelligence software, but the end result does not change. Moshe Vardi, an expert in computer science at Rice University in Texas, the estimates above are even optimistic. For Vardi by 2045 robots will replace humans in most work activities bringing unemployment above the threshold of 50%.

A risk trades unexpected – Psychological Terrorism? Unfortunately not. The robots and artificial intelligence will be deployed in almost all sectors. Map of places of work at risk encompasses trades considered until recently impregnable as those of relationship with the public and professional activities. Among the latest innovations in fact appear robots that deal BUSINESS customers in shops and hotels and algorithms that replace journalists in newsrooms. In 2015 robots have managed 66% of global stock exchanges and are no longer science fiction Google projects on cars that drive themselves (Google Car) and the Amazon on the delivery of the parcels purchased online with the drones.

There’s also the masons robots – And in the meantime does not stop even the replacement of men in traditional manual work and effort. In manufacture the machines are able to perform more and more functions and also in construction, until now relatively sheltered from innovation, masons appear the first robot capable of laying bricks. Human beings are only the tasks to teach and guide their activities.

Italian leader in robotics – Some might think that this threat does not concern Italy. But is not so. Our country, with 155 robots per 10,000 workers “human” is in second place in Europe for robotics after Germany and among the top ten nations in the world in robotics rate.

Science economy does not give definite answers – the economic science has long studied the relationship between innovation and the labor market. The prevailing theory is that initially the impact is negative, but in the long run the balance becomes positive because the jobs lost are being replaced by new occupations previously did not exist. An empirical analysis published by an Italian economist, Andrea Vinci, and published in the book “Technological Innovation and the Effect of the Employment on the EU Countries” has shown that it is possible to innovate without destroying jobs but on condition that certain conditions are met. The positive relationship is not that automatic.

Doubts on technology consequences should not be taboo – The computer Moshe Vardi has had the courage to raise a question that until now has always was a taboo: “We are confident that the technology we are developing will bring benefits to mankind?”. The question deserves careful consideration because if the machines really should practice in the majority of work activities, what will become of man?
