New Series 7: carbon fiber and debut plug-in – The Press

The new 7 Series offers the car more luxurious, comfortable and altogether more perfectly so far built by BMW in this class. ” Always inspired by the range “i”, the new 7 Series brings the debut of the luxury saloon technology eDrive. The range includes in fact the 740th (also long wheelbase and four-wheel drive xDrive), plug-in hybrid that combines a 4-cylinder petrol engine from 258 hp to 95 hp for an electric power system of 326 hp. The fuel consumption is reduced to just 2.1 liters / 100 km and CO2 emissions are contained only 49 g / km, while the electric motor (powered by a lithium-ion battery) allows the 7 Series a guide zero emissions up to 40 km at a speed of 120 km / h. The maximum speed is 240 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 times is completed in 5.5 to 5.7 seconds. The offer provides for the traditional motoring 730d (also xDrive) with diesel 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo 3-liter, 265 hp, the 740i gasoline 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo 3-liter, 326 hp and the 750i (also xDrive) with V8 petrol engine TwinPower Turbo 4.4-liter, 450 hp (sprint from a standstill in 4.4 seconds). The conventional engines are combined as standard with automatic transmission Steptronic eight reports. In the new generation of the 7 Series, the on-board monitor of the iDrive control system it is implemented for the first time as a touch display, a solution that allows (in addition to the management with the controller) to select and activate the functions simply by touching the screen surface. The iDrive is also expanded with the command gestures, other first fruits. The hand movements detected by a sensor 3D operate infotainment functions intuitively and comfortable, while a novelty is the seat of the smartphone integrated in the center console to allow, for the first time in a car, charging intuitive phone, without cable.
On board the atmosphere is unique, favored by the precision of the design of the lights. The optional ambient light environment provides a preview of the Welcome Light Carpet, sharp graphics produced by the lights in the area of ​​access and exit. For the long-wheelbase versions are offered also the panoramic glass roof Sky Lounge which, after dark, uniformly projects the light produced by the LED modules applied laterally on the glass surface to form a unique motive of starry sky. Do not miss, on request, the package Ambient Air, which provides the ionization of the air and spread a perfume and cosmetics, selectable from eight different aromas. The new 7 Series is also the first production car in the world capable (with the optional remote-controlled parking) to perform without driver maneuver to enter and exit a parking or a garage. Among the many innovations that the Sixth Series 7 will bring a dowry it is finally the first fruits of the laser light BMW equipped with Selective Beam that prevents glare. Compared to projectors Led, the scope of the high beams doubles to a distance of 600 meters. The new 7 Series will be manufactured at Dingolfing, cradle of aluminum and now carbon fiber.
