Ford: the car sees where the eye can not reach – Webnews

Ford has just announced a very important news that can multiply the safety of its vehicles and its customers: a video that, positioned on the front of the vehicle, allowing to see even where the human eye is not able to reach. It is a major breakthrough that, relying on technological innovation, it makes it safer driving experience.

Split Front View Camera

The new kicks name Split Front View Camera and consists in a camera installed initially on board the new Ford S-Max and Ford Galaxy ; by year-end same technology will also be on board the SUV Ford Edge . The camera, allocated at the front of the vehicle, “allows drivers to see in advance what’s around corners and any oncoming vehicles without having to engage the street, for example exiting parking or being placed on a cross. ” The front of a car is in fact the first part of the vehicle to sprout from corners or parking lots, often in adventurous way: as long as the driver does not have visibility on the situation in fact it is forced to approach the road to point out its presence and their inclination to take in the flow, in the hope that other drivers will notice the clutter and slow down. A video camera can, however, make this maneuver much less improvised and much safer using technologies widely available, but adapted intelligently to make the car “secure by design”.

According to a research project European Road Safety Observatory SafetyNet, in 19% of accidents occur at intersections, poor visibility is a major cause.

The Blue Oval, in particular, has Embedded camera inside the front grille of the vehicle , thus making it invisible to the eye outside. From this vantage point the camera has the ability to put together images shoot at 180 degrees , thus covering the entire range of vision needed to be fully aware of what is going to happen beyond the field view of the driver. The camera is just deep 33 mm and is equipped with a micro-high pressure jet capable of ensuring the constant cleaning of the lens (mud, rain or flies do not therefore represent an obstacle). The sensor is also designed in such a way as to allow unrestricted visibility in all light conditions, even when the sun shines on the front of the vehicle to be efficient technology it must be able to provide support in every situation, making the effective service to the driver .

Display

The images taken by the camera inside the car come through a special 8-inch screen . The simple activation with a button to turn on the camera, which shoots are reassembled on the display showing in one glance everything that happens in front of the vehicle. Not only the Front Split View Camera allows then to see in advance what is happening, but also allows you to avoid the pendulum of the head to the right and left that the driver has to do several times before entering on track, again take up in his mind the situation could be monitored only half of the overall vision.

For many motorists, even out of one’s garage is a daily problem. As back-up camera, this device is one of those that soon we will ask how it was possible to do without it in the past.

Ronny Hause, engineer, Ford of Europe

“It’s a situation that we have all experienced at least once,” Hause continues: “Sometimes it’s a car or a van, sometimes a tree, but the result is that we will move forward with caution until you can not see better. ” Ford then part from a situation of objective difficulty that any driver has experienced on their own, to identify a solution that can can change greatly the experience behind the wheel . Feeling more confident, in fact, is part of the security itself: the person can focus on inputs more just, avoid distractions and have greater control over the actions that are taking place. The car in this sense it is a collaborative tool that can optimize the operation and the relationship between the parties is equal: a new step in the direction of car can draw upon themselves a greater number of responsibilities in monitoring and guidance, until the ultimate goal of autonomous driving in which man will rely completely or almost half.

The camera is the ‘ eye

With Split Front View Camera, Ford leads the user’s eyes two meters ahead, placing them in front of the vehicle. It is not just an allegorical picture, however: in fact function driver’s vision is assisted and enhanced by the technology , allowing the person to change the strategy of his maneuver. The novelty is in the interest of safety and that of other road users, but also for pedestrians and cyclists that in no way can give advance notice of their arrival.

In the technology that Ford brings sull’abitacolo is therefore a certain amount of altruism parallel to the advantage to the person concerned: security is never a one-way, in fact, and every attention to this issue is a step in the direction of safer mobility for all. The Blue Oval has long focused its efforts on innovation as a tool to bring awareness to a new level on the car and on the role of the same in the urban system: helping man, notoriously weak mobility, means extending the its potential and sensory coadiuvarne strategic decisions through intelligent instrumentation.

The advantage will be measured in lives saved immediately, it will be felt in terms of the driving experience serenity and will be seen in perspective in way mobility will redesign the relationship between people and transport.

This technology will help increase safety in poor visibility and make more serene experience in the car.
