Back to the Future – Lexus: “We created the hoverboard levitation … – Quattroruote

Fans of “Back to the Future”, and not only, are waiting forever. Trust in technology, financing projects and campaigns on Kickstarter (such as Hendo). But now, they have one more reason for hope: the magic formula to play the mythological hoverboard Marty McFly would be to a car manufacturer, or Lexus.

Magnets and superconductors. Just today, the Japanese brand has announced that it has “created the hoverboard of the future”, based on magnetic levitation and able to slip without generating friction. According to the House, the technological breakthrough is based on superconductors cooled with liquid hydrogen (the smoke that seems to emerge from the table) and – of course – on special magnets. “It’s a perfect example of how you can achieve outstanding results by combining technology, imagination and design,” said Mark Templin, executive vice president of Lexus. At the moment, you do not know how you can control the hoverboard, since hardly the only just moving the body.

“Nothing is impossible”. The prototype is part of the fourth project of the campaign “Amazing in Motion”, developed to demonstrate the creativity and innovation of the brand: the test of the prototype would be already underway and so far the only video released by Lexus shows Man falls from a normal skateboard to place one foot on the table levitating, suspended a few centimeters from the ground. Is it true? Think of a joke, or a publicity stunt, it may be the first thing that comes to mind to those who hoped in vain for years and years. Still, the Lexus seem very serious: “Nothing is impossible – ensures Haruhiko Tanahashi, chief engineer Lexus – It is all about understanding how to accomplish it.” To know if the dream of imitating McFly will come true seriously we have to wait again, but in the meantime all the news about the project can be followed thanks all’hashtag #LexusHover.
