GP China / ran in two, and Ferrari finished second … – The Republic

In a Formula 1 with only two teams presentable, Ferrari is the second force.

It may seem a rather ‘reductive of the efforts made in the factory and the results obtained on the track by the Maranello team, in this 2015. And though the main data returned by Shanghai race and, in general, from the first three seasonal appointments, is exactly that, and it would be dishonest not to acknowledge it.

Behind Mercedes and Ferrari, in fact, there is a vacuum. To say, the third team of the bunch, the Williams what in theory should be the main competitor of the Red, is little more than a bracket who live in conditions pre-bankruptcy, for budget and management. And that is kept afloat by Mercedes (and Martini): if it were not for the engine kindly offered by the German company, Bottas and if Massa would beat with Force India in the bottom of the grid. Today before the safety car, Massa bolinava about thirty seconds from discharges of Raikkonen (almost a minute from Hamilton). A situation slightly better than the McLaren-Honda-Seppuku and the Red Bull-Renault-barbecue, the latter the disappointment of this season.

But also placed second in a race to two, we must say that Ferrari is still doing a wonderful figure. Not so much for the many podiums that is collecting (at the end of twenty races will make at least 15 third places) As for the seriousness and the effectiveness with which Arrivabene, Allison, Vettel and others are carrying out a project evidently more rational precedents. Personally I consider ridiculous the words with which Alonso tries to minimize what is happening in Maranello (“are in a second from Mercedes”). A little ‘because it is not true – or at least not always – and a little’ because it also does not hurt to have worked as a Red Bull and McLaren is a great, great merit. Of which his Ferrari that last year took slaps in every way and everywhere (and in any lake, as would the poet Scanu) certainly can not boast. *

In principle, it is nonetheless true that the SF-15T suffers terribly Mercedes in qualifying and even more in any other condition being equal tires. But when the question of the tires becomes complicated, and management becomes crucial, then the red car approaching in a monstrous than that of silver. Throughout the second stint today, one made with soft new, it was a small ordeal for men to Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda that in at least a couple of times – at least judging from the crowds that were on radio – they gave the ‘ impression of being on the verge of combining some disaster. As confirmed by the nervous breakdown of Nico Rosberg both in and after the race accusation of Hamilton to have slowed down making him consume bad tires.

Then everything went well for them, but only a year ago, that Ferrari could hold their breath the wall Mercedes for more than a quarter of the race was quite unthinkable. Internal reports for commercial Stuttgart said that the Anglo-German technological superiority with this power unit was such as to give assurance domain until at least 2020 (regulations unchanged). Well, engineers and marketing people in Germany can take those reports, appallottolarli and play basketball with the trash. Ferrari is coming.
