After Google and Apple also Shell thinks of his car – ANSA.it

ROME – The business of mobility, which has already attracted new players outside the sector such as Google and Apple, will see in the coming years in the landing ‘field of vehicles with low environmental impact of a third player’ planetary ‘, the colossus of fuels and lubricants Shell. In conjunction with the edition of the Detroit Marathon Shell – the event dedicated to the cars laboratory with ultra-low consumption, which took place this weekend – the Dutch Group has formalized the program to develop a city car ‘global’ which will aims to show how the traditional internal combustion engines will still evolve and be a solution for urban mobility with fuel consumption and emissions very contained.

Called Project M for the moment, this compact car will be developed by a team consisting of experts from Shell (which will provide all its know-how in the field of fuels and lubricants), former Formula One car designer Gordon Murray and society Geo Technology which belongs to another famous character from the world of F1 , the specialist engines Osamu Goto. The project’s goal is to assume a vehicle capable of meeting the needs of individual mobility in the coming decades, when the current one billion cars on the road in the world could double (according to IEA data) by 2050. In addition to technological innovations constructive and certainly that will characterize the new city car Shell – a first prototype should be submitted as early as next November – it will, as stated in the website of the Dutch group dedicated to Project M, a vehicle ‘shared’ with users already in the phase of design and development. In fact, anyone can contribute ideas and comments on the issues of mobility, own or the city in which he lives, interacting for the next 31 days with the team of designers through the site https://www.projectm.shell.com/Pages/SubmitIdea .aspx. A mode, that of participation in the project of the users through social networks (the so-called crowdsourcing) that had already been used for the first time in the automotive world by Fiat in Brazil in 2009 to study and develop the concept of city car Mio, unveiled at the Sao Paulo the following year. Shell has not for the moment widespread technical information or images of his new car workshop (which for the moment will not be used for the production) but it is easy to assume that many solutions will refer to the city car designed by Gordon Murray T25 already in Britain.
