Robotics, students of the Rings-Fermi fly the world final – Il Tirreno

PISTOIA. “A goal extraordinary,” comments Professor Paul Bernardi , manager of the technical-technological Fedi Fermi. The “his” boys of Informatics II B will fly to the States to participate in the world finals of science and robotics First Lego League, in Saint Louis, April 22 to 25. Students team “2IB-Ombi” dell’Itts Fedi-Fermi, you have already won the national final in Milan, but to fly in America were required 30,000 euro, and that money, the institute, not had them there. In recent weeks, thanks to the appeal launched by the school, were many contributions from companies and private citizens. Each one for what it was in its possibilities. And then 10,000 Euros by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia and Lucca, and news of recent days, € 10,000 from the American Embassy in Rome, who will deliver the grant Saturday, April 11 at 19 in an official ceremony at the library San Giorgio.

The First Lego League national championship won by the students of the Rings-Fermi is an event reserved for students aged 9 to 16 years, which feature the Lego bricks, used to create autonomous robots. Milan’s victory gave the boys the IIB Informatics, coordinated by Professor Federica Bettin (teacher of computer technology and expert in educational robotics), the pass for Saint Louis, Missouri. But lacked the economic resources (always lower in a school hit by continuing cuts) and where the State has not done so, we thought the solidarity of local governments, foundations, businesses large and small, ordinary citizens. The full list of those who have become in effect “sponsor” will be presented during the ceremony in the library. Companies that have agreed to sponsor the project will have an advertising return picture for the whole three days the US. The schools in the finals are a hundred, from all over the world, 50,000 spectators expected.

“Their project – explains Bernardi – employs augmented reality technology to the study of ancient history and art history. In practice, part of the framework of the logos, references, codes, and with a smartphone or tablet is obtained 3D playback of these images. ” “You get the three-dimensional reproduction of a virtual image,” explain the students on their site: www.ibombi.it. Even through the use of holograms. The device reads the logo through the camera and plays it in a virtual way. It ‘a technique, says Professor Bernardi, which is well suited to industrial design, consultation and catalogs of objects but that, as a new frontier, could arrive at school. “The theme of this year’s championship robotics – Bernardi says – is in fact related to the innovations that improve the teaching.” Presenting the grant of € 10,000 to the leadership of the Rings-Fermi will Elizabeth McKay, Holly Murten, Gimena Campos Cervera. Students participating in the project are: Stead Madeleine Barbagallo, Niccolò Canton, Samuel Cerri, Fabio Coppini, Andrea Fantacci, Fabio Ferraro, Fumagalli Luca, Alessandro Mencarelli, James Niccolai and Mattia Vectors.
