New VW Up !, built around the smartphone – ANSA.it

COMO – originally – twenty years ago – was the Wolf in 2005 turned into Fox to take up, in 2011, the name of VW Up!.

We are talking of the city car of the German group that in five years has managed to gain the trust of 660 thousand customers in Europe. Now, thanks to a series of awards that saw her triumph in 2011 earning the title of Volante d’Oro and in 2012 with the award of the World Car of the Year, the small Wolfsburg draws the trick but the real news concerns especially the technological equipment, designed entirely around the use of the smartphone – to ensure a more connected driving – and security at the top of the segment. But there’s more. In Italy, where Up! since its launch has been sold in 55 thousand copies achieved a leading position among the city car importers for two consecutive years (2013-2014), will also be available in electric versions and methane (the latter accounts for 40% of total sales in our country). New Up !, unveiled in preview at the Geneva Motor Show, has come of age than in the past but despite the wealth of content the price remains relatively ‘low’: EUR 11 thousand for the entry level, a surprise when you consider that the Up! In 2011 it cost 150 Euros more but it had available, as standard equipment, much less. From the aesthetic point of view, at first glance, little change.

The outer grooves give a strong feeling of strength and, combined with cuts decided by the front and rear, give a great sense of dynamism. Also introduced the LED daytime running lights: in the face of similar proportions to those of the previous version – the model has increased by only 60 mm in length (length: 3,600 mm; width: 1,645 mm, height: 1,478 mm) – the new front gives the more important the car. Inside the customization is an extreme with a series of variables also as regards the lighting. But personalization is truly endless when you consider that are provided thirteen colors for the body (seven of them new), eight design for the dash pad (decorative inserts on the dashboard) and seven new colors of seats. Three trim levels take, move and high to which you add style and design packages pack pack.

Design but also entertainment on board with Radio Phone Composition – standard in Italy across the spectrum – which features a five-inch color display and supports DAB as well as being equipped with AUX-iN and SD card interfaces. The radio Composition Phone provides only a Bluetooth connectivity that allows the integration into the infotainment system all common smartphones. The device provides for the recognition of handwriting that lets you search across security numbers and addresses. The audio system is a 300-watt Beats Audio with six high-end speakers and a separate subwoofer (also provided a dedicated version of Up! Which is precisely nicknamed beats).

The new Up! debuts with four engines. Alongside the already known three-cylinder 1-liter with multipoint injection (MPI), respectively, 60 and 75 hp (standard with manual five-speed transmission is also available with change increasingly automated five-speed ASG), we find also in the variation range 68 hp CNG BlueMotion Technology that includes the start / stop devices and energy recovery under braking that favor fuel economy, while making its debut the brand new gasoline direct injection (TSI) 1 liter of displacement that delivers 90 hp. Available from summer also the e-Up! electricity. Finally in the area of ​​security, for Italy is available as standard on City emergency brake for emergency braking at speeds below 30 km / h.
