Volvo is starting to work on developing a future range of new compact models, C-segment, for the European market . The new Volvo cars, writes Autocar , will be born at CEVT (Chine Euro Vehicle Technology) , the new technology center Geely, the Chinese owner of Volvo Group, has opened in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Leading the project there will be Mats Fagerhag , who was the engineer responsible for the development the floor Phoenix that has been the basis of several models Saab , the Swedish brand in disgrace a few years ago.
At CEVT Gothenburg take shape several new models in the Volvo brand, including a new car direct competitor of Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus , in addition to the crossover XC40 and successor of the V40 . News that will be sold in Europe and in China.
The new models of Saab will be based on a modular architecture to keep costs . The basic structure of the compact Volvo will scalable in length, width, height, pace and size of the wheels. There will be as much modularity for different structural characteristics of the new car as the heating and ventilation.
For the time has not been given any official date of launch of new Volvo models, but it is thought that the new range of compact Swedes will be ready to debut on the market within two and a half years .
