Growing research: three million revenues in late 2015 – Il Tirreno

PRATO. Three million of revenues at the end of 2015 , 26 labs employing a hundred people, from young graduates to experienced researchers, 78 businesses involved Prato. And ‘this trend emerged from the half-year income statement Pin examined in late July by the board of the company and presented in the Town Hall dagll’assessore University and Research Daniela Toccafondi , the President of Pin Maurizio Fioravanti and engineer Luca Mattesini, Office Research Pin.

“Prato can boast the presence of cutting-edge research laboratories, which are excellence and the pride of our city – said the commissioner for Universities and Research Daniela Toccafondi – The presence of these important workshops is well known national firms, but just at the local level. The Pin and its laboratories are an excellence that everyone should know and which Prato should be proud, because companies that want to shine in the scenario Global must be innovative, and innovation starts from the research. “

Inside the PIN operate fact 26 research laboratories that arise in the community, producing innovation in the organization of the production system, and at the same time economic utility. There are about a hundred researchers, from young graduates to experienced researchers, who carry out their activities in the laboratories of the Pin. The utility estimated at the end of 2015 is about half a million Euros and will be reinvested in the activities of the Polo university city, as per the Statute of the pin that is a non-profit.

“These results so flattering – says Maurizio Fioravanti, president of Pin – you are made possible by the interplay of three factors: the competence and commitment of our technicians, coordinated by the Director, Dr. Enrico Banchelli; vitality, despite often says otherwise, our institutional system and of our production system, which through us is increasingly choosing the path of innovation; support which has never failed, the University, and with it the institutions and associations expression of the local society, to start by the City, by the Foundation of the Savings Bank, the Province, as long as it existed in all of its functions and, finally, by trade associations, within the limits of their capabilities. Without this self-financing capacity – continued Professor Fioravanti – budgets Pin could not stay balanced. Without this our reaction to the crisis, the Pin would heavily impacted the drastic reduction in government grants. “

Revenues are derived for 58% to the engineering , is in its most innovative developments (ICT, digitization, logistics) that engineering classic, this PIN from its origins (mechanical engineering and environmental). 30% come from the Social Sciences and economic , in particular from the Social Business and social inclusion projects, illegal work and promoting safety, supported by the Project Prato Tuscany Region. 12% comes from the Chemical merchandise , through the recovery and enhancement of waste of industrial processes.

As for the sources of funds, 47% of orders come from private companies, confirming the trend of recent years (volume steadily above 40%); 29% of European projects and 24% from projects with public agencies, including the 18% comes from relationships with entities participated by the Tuscany Region.

Another interesting fact that emerges from the analysis of the interim income statement of the PIN is that the orders of the private companies come to 45% percent from the metropolitan area Florence-Prato-Pistoia, 13% of which are from companies located in the district of Prato (for mostly micro and small businesses, some of which are family-owned), and 25% from the rest of the region, with a total of 70% of the proceeds from committed private Tuscan companies. The main sectors in which they operate the 78 companies in which the Pin played in 2015 research, are the ICT / electronics (24%), energy / environment (21%) and fashion (14%).

An important change concerns the proposed agreement made by Pin, at the request of the City, to start a collaboration with the Science and Technology Park of Prato (ex CREAF). The proposal provides for the transfer of four workshops, followed by four professors dell’Univestità of Engineering of Florence, in the spaces via Galcianese. These three laboratories and an industrial environment, in which will be occupied thirty researchers. Pin, once the structure is completed and active, so will occupy a space of 1,640 square meters, which will be activated the four laboratories, and will also be made depending on the wind tunnel and a channel for the study of wave.
