Second and third place two farmers Girifalco, respectively Joseph Lagano with his noggin from 280 kg and Catherine Cristofaro, one woman, who is also this year on the podium with a pumpkin from 259.5 kg. Special mention also for the most beautiful pumpkin Salvatore Proganò and pumpkin strangest Ivana Deieso. Of the 70 registered growers Calabria, in 21 they managed to get a pumpkin competition and join the race. Among them, seven are over two tons. Present at the event, the regional vice president Andrea Dominijanni and the president of the Circle of Girifalco Francesca Mendicino together with the organizers Giampà Domenico and Luigi Sabatini. Great participation from the community of Girifalco and volunteers of the member associations including the Avis, the Pro Loco, “Girifalco bike”, “In-Training”, “The merry peasants” and the circle of Legambiente Catanzaro. The news for next year, will be the registration to enter the world ranking of giant pumpkins. The race was held in the yard of the primary school of Girifalco, inside of which were set up food stands, the sculptures of pumpkins and the exhibition of antique farm machinery. The evening was enlivened by the musical group “Tillband Jazz”. The idea of ​​the race of the heaviest pumpkin, born from the desire to bring young and old in the world of agriculture in charge. The event aims to promote the quality of life in all its aspects: the preservation of the environment to technological innovations, the promotion of renewable sources to the protection of traditions and local culture, to support organic farming the use of compostable tableware in pulp cellulose environmentally friendly.
