VMworld 2016: debuts Cross-Cloud Architecture – TechWeekEurope IT

For some time VMware believes that the right approach to meet the needs of customers that switch to the cloud is to provide services and technologies for the coexistence and synergy of most cloud platforms at the same time. The opinion of the software house is that the heterogeneity connected to the hybrid cloud is a prerequisite, and has focused on solutions that allow the infrastructure level, as NSX or Virtual SAN. From the > VMworld 2016 arrive first in this sense, with the presentation of what the company has called Cross-Cloud Architecture .

The Cross -Cloud Architecture is – as the name indicates – conceptual / strategic architecture rather than a specific product. The idea appears to be extension to the cloud of the problem that VMware has already addressed in the traditional server world: separate resources lead to their use is not optimal, and an exchange of information at times complex. Once it was true for servers and is born as a result the classic virtualization, now is happening for cloud services from those with an infrastructure multicloud. And here is the Cross-Cloud Architecture with its many old components (still VSAN and NSX) and new.

Among the new ones, in Las Vegas debuted VMware Cloud Foundation, a preview of cross-cloud services , VMware vCloud Availability and a new version of VMware vCloud Air Hybrid Cloud Manager.

VMware Cloud Foundation is a bit ‘the technological basis of the new architecture multicloud. It is a stack that combines vSphere, VSAN and NSX and has a specific module – VMware SDDC Manager – for managing it and then for the management of complex and heterogeneous cloud infrastructure, even with automation functions. The aim is also speed the creation of such infrastructure and VMware promises a reduction in the time of 6 to 8 times.

The Cloud Foundation will offer Also as a service cloud (at the top will do IBM, which intensifies the alliance, then the other partners of the vCloud Air Network) able to communicate with the internal resources of the customers and thus create a hybrid cloud managed according to the principles of cross-Cloud Architecture.

of the other news announced, the cross-Cloud services is a new range of SaaS targeted options to the management of hybrid and multicloud cloud environments. Are still under development and is intended to cover various areas ranging from governance of cloud security applications, from compliance to application migration.

Among the new product properly, Availability for VMware vCloud vCloud Director is a new module that allows the vCloud Air Network cloud providers to enable and then offer their customers disaster recovery services for vSphere environments. A new version of Hybrid Cloud Manager was instead presented to optimize the migration of applications between a private cloud and VMware vCloud Air, in both directions.
