The scanner that reveals the calories and 4 other new technologies – Bergamo Post

The technological research offers every week new inventions that can make our lives easier, including engineers who work for large companies and young people looking for funding on crowdfunding platforms. Here is the news announced in recent days.

1) The gadget that tells you how much gluten is in your flat

The intolerances and food allergies , such as celiac disease, they are becoming more frequent. Even the catering is slowly adapting to the new customers, with foods ad hoc and restaurants are increasingly attentive to the needs of their patrons. In some cases, however, it is not easy to understand if this is in your plate of gluten, which is often hidden in the most unexpected foods.

To help people with celiac disease face every dish without fear, it was invented Nima, a small gadget that is capable of in real time to analyze the content of your plate and measure the amount of gluten present in it. It works thanks to the disposable capsules that are used to insert a small portion of food inside the instrument and in a few minutes Nima will indicate how much gluten is present, up to a minimum of 20 parts per million (about 20 mg kg). This limit is the same as that set for the so-called foods gluten free and therefore, in case of failure, you will be sure not to run any risk. In case of success however, the instrument will show a sad face. The pre-order is already available on the official website, the price of basic kit is $ 199.

2) Edwin, the new educational toy

it was only a matter of time before new technologies they found original ways to entertain even the little ones, with more interactive tools of the normal educational toys and more smartphone or TV.

the Edwin manufacturers have considered using a classic and reassuring aspect to achieve an advanced toy, or a classic yellow duck like the ones you put in the bathtub, and the result is very interesting. It is intended for an audience of tiny, from 0 to 9 years old, he is able to play music and sounds, but also help in learning with books and interactive games and is obviously proof bathtub. When evening comes, Edwin can be used to sing a lullaby or as a night light in children’s room. Has been very successful and is already sold in some Apple Store at the base price of $ 99.

Max Braun was tired of her old and outdated mirror in the bathroom, so he set his mind on create a version 2.0, with new technological features. Luck has it that Max is also a former Google software engineer, so the result was surprising.

The new mirror is integrated with the typical functions of Google Now, many of us use every day on your smartphone: translucent sheets shall be sent directly to the mirror and updated in real time, showing weather, commitments for the day and breaking news. Technically it is a two-way mirror, fitted with a LED screen from 15 inches to which is connected one stick Amazon Fire TV, modified to be efficient on this device. Max explained the details showing the pictures on your own blog and without false modesty post titled: “The mirror of my bathroom is smarter than you.”

4) The anti-theft light bulb

There are plenty of video surveillance and alarm systems to keep thieves away from home, but often it is invasive or complex methods, which must be installed in different parts of the house. But from now it could be enough a “simple” light bulb to prevent theft: it is called Comfylight and was launched a few weeks ago on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

Within Comfylight are LEDs for ‘ lighting, a microwave sensor, a brightness sensor, a UV sensor and a Wi-Fi module. By studying the movements of the landlord, this device is able to turn on and off any lights when we enter and leave a room, but also when no one is home, giving the impression to the attackers of a never empty house. Thanks to the low consumption of the LED, the inventors ensure that there will be no impact on the electricity bill. Comfylight also monitors in real time the movements inside the house, even warning us with a text message if entered uninvited guests.

The idea seems to be liked and, compared to 50 thousand dollars required, the promoters collected more than twice the sum, then promising the sending of the first models already in a short time. The sale price for the pre-order is 129 Euros.

To the rescue comes the first 3D laser scanner can measure the calories present in a dish in a few moments, by connecting to our smartphones.

It’s called 3D Nutriray, it will be compatible with all major mobile systems (iOS, Android, Windows) and is able, with an approximation of all acceptable, between 87 and 91 percent, to provide many nutritional information of a plate, among which the number of calories. The idea comes from professional tools such as those designed for epidemiologists and nutritionists, but the intention is to make a product available for the general public. Until a few days ago it was possible to buy an alpha version for $ 199 on Indiegogo, but developers are sure to be able to design a new version with even more compact dimensions, making it easier to connect with your smartphone.
