New Audi R8, the fastest ever – Il Sole 24 Ore – Il Sole 24 Ore

The new model while remaining faithful to the design philosophy of the previous one, it differs only to an important choice mechanical: the new R8 fact gives farewell to eight cylinders and from now on will only count on the V10 engine. The base model, equipped with the variant with 540 hp of maximum power accelerates in 3.5 seconds from 0 to 100 on and reaches a top speed of 323 kmh, while the Plus version that is equipped with the 610 hp variant accelerates in third, 2/2 on 0-100 kmh, 9.9 on 0-200 and reaches 330 kmh. And ‘in fact the R8 fastest ever. The engine, dry sump lubrication, has several important technological solutions, such as double injection, direct and indirect, the deactivation system of cylinders at low load and the Start & amp; Stop.

Thanks to the overall optimization of the mechanics, Audi is able to declare the values ​​of consumption of less than 10% compared to the previous R8 V10, with the “basic” version credited to 11.8 l / 100 km and 275 g / km of CO2 and the Plus of 12.4 l / 100 km and 289 g / km. On both variants is standard transmission seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic with three automatic modes, and manual function of coasting, for further fuel savings. Also standard is the Quattro all-wheel drive with limited slip rear and electrohydraulic clutch multidisc front instead of the previous viscous coupling, which can also send 100% of the torque to either axle. The new system Audi drive select offers now five driving modes: the already known Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual Performance will be added, albeit at the request V10, as is standard on the V10 Plus.

Another technical difference between the two versions is the presence of carbon-ceramic brake system on the V10 Plus, instead of steel discs daisy adopted by V10. The R8 second generation was built on a new structure type “space frame” lighter than 50 kg, thanks to increased use of carbon. The frame is combined with double wishbone suspension front and rear aluminum, in a good part of the same body and aerodynamics is different from the outgoing model, under the flat bottom of the extractor and redesigned. Among the novelties there are also laser lights, available as an option with the Audi virtual cockpit, the headlights are the plus technology of the new model, which is configured in the dual role of sport and flagship, given the great load of innovative content . The second generation of the R8 will be on sale from September, but the pre-sales have already started in these days the price of 169,500 € for the version with 540 hp, which become 195,800 euro for the Plus.
