The most famous historical figures of all time according to a
software are Jesus and Napoleon

Two scholars have created an algorithm based on Wikipedia
to calculate how long the reputation on the web

Napoleon Bonaparte is second in popularity Napoleon Bonaparte is second in popularity MILAN-After more than 2 thousand years its popularity is skyrocketing: Jesus Christ is the most famous person who ever lived, followed by Napoleon and Shakespeare, and beating icons of the past and present leaders, emperors, rock stars and sports stars: Steven Skiena support him and Charles Ward in their book “Who’s Bigger? Where Historical Figures Really rank. ” which arises from the discovery of an algorithm that, scouring the web, is able to calculate the reputation of persons over time.

FARSIGHTEDNESS – That is for those who are still alive as well as for those who have already died, and assembling the results of the English version of Wikipedia about 800 thousand people, measures the reputation of historical figures with a look-sighted and very precise. The technology platform developed by Skiena and Ward can predict the “reputation” of anyone looking at it 200 years later. Jesus Christ and Mozart, but also Madonna and Bob Dylan: how people talk about them, they will keep their reputation or the latter is bound to evaporate? In the top of the popularity list, after the son of God, are in addition to Shakespeare and Napoleon, the philosopher Aristotle and Alexander the Great, but in the top ten, unfortunately, there is no mention of any female name. Skiena and Ward explain that historically were very few women to land at certain positions or trades since most of the routes closed to women, and this would explain why humanity is not yet sufficiently full of famous female names. But there are two names on the list both British and both Queen: Elizabeth I and Victoria .

WHEN fame is ephemeral- It seems destined to evaporate, for example, the popularity of Justin Bieber, even if at present it would seem impossible. And it’s not the only one, because to hold up over time, as explained by Skiena, who teaches at Stony Brook University in New York, each figure is evaluated by aggregating the traces of millions of views in a rigorous and twisting the results with the wiki pages. No reference instead to the social networks that, according to the authors of the book and software, so too wavering measure the fame of the people and in any case reflect fairly faithfully the results of the web. Jesus, Napoleon, William Shakespeare, Muhammad, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Adolf Hitler, Aristotle, Alexander the Great and Thomas Jefferson: these are the ten most popular figures than ever, to whom goes the credit for having already passed the test of time. Mandela is currently 365esima position instead of the standings. Finally, there is a thirty-sixth place for George Bush making it one of the individuals living higher up in the ‘reputation parade, “but the scientists point out that the former U.S. president has ridden the popularity of Wikipedia at the time of the boom and then the mentions that he has collected are proportionally more And finally Britney Spears is at position 689 of the long list but it is likely that 200 years from now few will remember it.
