Google buys robots Boston Dynamics - Point Computer

Yet another high-profile acquisition by Mountain View, which seems ready to play a leading role in the revolution next venture interconnected humanity and robotics

Rome – Google acquired Boston Dynamics (BD), a spin-off from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), well known for its robotic prototypes built for the agency DARPA. Now the question on everyone’s mind is: how Mountain View intends to build its new technological capabilities in the more or less near future?

Interest of the colossus of advertising for the advanced robotics is a known fact, with the former number one Android Andy Rubin committed to manage everything in research labs in Palo Alto. Boston Dynamics should therefore be added to the seven other specialized companies already acquired by Google in the past six months.

But BD is also the company that has aroused deep impression in the recent past thanks to his exploits robotic military applications in complex scenarios, such as the humanoid Atlas drones who ventures where man can not arrive, the “mule” Alphadog – also known as WildCat – which follows the user, runs and changes direction without fail, the runner Cheetah able to exceed 46 miles per hour in the race and more.

The newcomer in the acquisition strategies of short, Google has a respectable pedigree with regard to advanced robotics, and from Mountain View reassured that the company will honor its commitments (and especially contracts) already signed with DARPA for the finalization of His current projects.

As for the future, then, we can only speculate: Google could, for example, integrate the robot in its current data collection activities on people, property and the real world, or maybe you would have no way to ride the next phenomenon of the business after robotic saturated the market for mobile gadget with Android.
