It’s called Blaise Aguera y Arcas, is considered one of the most brilliant engineers of Microsoft, a key figure in the development of Bing, the mobile version of the search engine and Bing Maps. A “star” among the experts from overseas, awarded the title of Distinguished Engineer in 2011. Its future will be, in the next few days, away from Redmond: Arcas will in fact work for Google. Yet another port of an executive of the competition at the court of Mountain View has mentioned yesterday the New York Times through a post on his blog.

The frontier of machine learning
Microsoft, where he arrived in 2006 by Seadragon Software following the acquisition of the company he founded in 2003 and specializes in advanced displays, Aguera y Arcas has also worked on emerging technologies and more precisely of wearable computing, interaction design and natural human-machine interfaces. Among his last works he remembers, in particular, the new version of Photosynth, a service for creating 3D panoramic images. Google will focus, according to the NYT, on projects of “machine learning”, namely the learning ability of artificial computer.

In 2005, Google perfected the recruitment of Kai-Fu Lee, an expert in speech recognition technology, in order to entrust the responsabliltià of a research center in China, the Redmond company has sued the former employee that Google, claiming that Lee was violating a non-compete agreement included in his contract. The legal dispute was resolved with an extra court agreement between the two companies, which have never been revealed to the terms.
Before him another “top engineer”, Mark Lucovsky, he went by the Redmond company to take the road in Mountain View, arousing the ire of Steve Ballmer in respect of the current Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt. Now it is the turn of Aguera y Arcas.
