SIAE tax smartphones: 100 000 000 - Mobile Magazine

Luke Figini December 16, 2013

The SIAE intervenes heavily on discussions about the next law of Stability and increases for fair compensation for the private copying. To hear more of impacts are smartphone , tablet and computers. Even mobile devices will suffer an increase of the fees already charged and, let’s face it, “taxes” from SIAE to compensate for the illegal distribution of content. All of this could take place in 2014.

The fair compensation has been around for a few years and in fact should integrate as lost from the piracy of music, film and video. So far it has been applied devices and media capable of storing data: the fee is commensurate on the amount of built-in memory. To say that buying one of these products was implicitly create copies content, having already paid the high taxes . That, however, is based on the assumption that any of us face illegal copies , as it is applied equally on all smartphones, tablets and computers in stores.

Well, if so far the SIAE was allowed to adjust the fair compensation based on the average European time, as reported by Corriere della Sera, the entity would freedom action. So rising prices could touch the 500% and generate an induced which could involve also Smart TV, between 100 and 200 million Euros.

It should be by itself the notion that in a moment of difficulty Economic seems really excessive penalize is the only segment of the thriving consumer electronics. In reality, what will happen with the law of stability is that it will reduce for fair compensation on products that aging (DVD, VCR, etc.) to increase five times as much on smartphones and tablets.

There is talk of more than EUR 5 for each mobile device you add at the current price and 6 € for computers. And so the era of streaming and digital content accessible from the Web, we find ourselves at the time of cassettes and CD …

At least for SIAE .
