Nokia Asha 501, the other mobile phone - Computer Point

Into Nokia unveils new cheap cell line Asha, a device more “dumb” and “smart” but with additional features to a terminal base. To be used strictly with 2G networks

Rome – After revealing the smartphone Lumia 928 dedicated to the rich western consumers connected to networks hypervelocity, Nokia is now devoting their energies to promote the new product line Asha: thought for the ‘use in emerging and developing countries, Asha 501 looks like a cross between smartphone and dumbphone able to offer some related feature at a reasonable cost.

The new Asha is intended to bring together technology and value in a product that should amaze the users for what it is able to do, says Nokia: the terminal, which costs $ 99, will be marketed mainly in emerging markets (Latin America, India and others). Will arrive in Europe in June, while the output in North America is currently uncertain.

The body of Asha 501 is a single piece of plastic (polycarbonate) that brings to mind the Lumia statement (520) and is available in various colors and flashy at all discreet. LCD touch screen is 3 “with a resolution of game for MS-DOS (320×240), characteristics that are perfectly in line with the price of the device. The software (Asha) is of course very different from that used for Windows Phone Lumia, has an organization of icons on-screen similar to Apple’s iOS and offers standard functionality (SMS, calls, notifications interactive) next to their features and app a smartphone such: WhatsApp, Twitter, Face book, and a version of casual play Plants Vs Zombies is not missing, and through the newly Asha Platform developers can get to work to create applications for smartphones Asha.

As regards storage, finally, each terminal Asha 501 is equipped with an SD card from 4 GB and supports memory cards of larger dimensions. Limited support for connectivity, since you do not go over 2G networks (GSM / EDGE).

The decision not to include support for 3G networks, Nokia says, was dictated by the continuing popularity of this kind of antiquated technology in the markets in which the Asha 501 is intended, in addition to the price. It remains to see the capacity of the new terminal curb the decline of the brand in markets where Asha should instead depopulate, at least according to the intentions of the Finnish corporation.
