Gigantic explosion on the moon visible to the naked eye from the earth ... - The Messenger

MILAN – The impact of a meteorite on the surface of the Moon has caused a massive explosion
visible for a few moments even to the naked eye from Earth.

L ‘ event, filmed on March 17 by NASA telescopes, shown in a video posted two days ago, is just the latest in a veritable rain of meteorites, over 300, which affected our satellite in the last 8 years. The meteorite with a diameter of less than half a meter and a weight of 40 kilograms, hit the region of Mare Imbrium creating a crater with a diameter of 20 meters.

The video released by NASA:

“EXPLOSION EQUAL TO 5 tons of TNT” The ‘stone’ spatial impacted with a speed that give off energy equal to the explosion of 5 tons of TNT. “He created a glow 10 times more than we’ve ever been able to observe before,” says Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office. In fact, anyone with eyes focused on the Moon at the time of the clash, he could see the glow without the aid of a telescope. For about a second, the site of the impact it has shone as a star of magnitude 4. “On that night of 17 March – remember Cooke – the cameras of NASA and the University of Western Ontario have collected an unusual number of meteors on Earth. These fireballs were traveling along nearly identical orbits between Earth and the asteroid belt. ” This could mean that our planet and the Moon have been targeted by more meteorites at the same time. “My guess – the expert concludes – i s that the two events were connected.”
