The fabric that cleans itself and 4 other new technologies – Bergamo Post

The technological research offers every week new inventions, that can make our lives easier, including engineers who work for large companies and young people looking for funding on crowdfunding platforms. Here is the news announced in recent days.

1) in smart contact lenses with camera

the smart devices are still rising and promise to soon become fundamental for our lives, increasing our capabilities and allowing us to do what until recently was unthinkable. The category of “wearable” is one of the most interesting, because it includes a number of objects that should follow throughout the day, changing it for the better.

Samsung is moving a lot about this market and has to little in the patented smart contact lenses, with a minimum thickness and equipped with a display, a camera and a wireless receiver, as well as motion sensors which detect even movements of the eyelid. They work by connecting to your smartphone or tablet: the images collected by the lenses will be broadcast on the relevant display. Thanks to the light and the proximity to the eyes, will be able to compete even with the virtual reality viewers who are just now on the market, offering even greater immersion and removing the footprint problem of objects like Oculus Rift.

the main problems are related to privacy, as happened after the first rumors of Google Glass, because the lenses are able to take pictures in a totally hidden, without so people can express their possible dissent. It is not yet clear what will be the main use of this invention, but it is likely that in a few months to be launched on the market and therefore we will know precisely every detail.

2) Nanotechnologies for clothes clean themselves

Leading an increasingly hectic lifestyle, many people are struggling to find the time (or inclination) to perform household tasks, first of all, the cleaning of clothes. Researchers at the University of Melbourne have created for them a fabric that cleans itself and that could be commercialized within a short time. With the help of special nanostructures, these new fabrics can destroy the organic material such as earth, dust and sweat, simply by exposing it to a source of light. The effect is achieved through the use of bronze and silver, metal very effective at absorbing light, which when hit by sunlight or artificial light react by heating the electrons that make up the fabric. Thanks to this warming and the creation of energy the organic elements that are on it are degraded in less than six minutes, wiping completely.

3) The smart pot that you control with your smartphone

the Chinese company Xiaomi is not yet well known in Europe, but is all the rage in China and has already gained a market share also in our country, especially among the most passionate of technologies. Its catalog has smartphones, smart TVs and many other devices, but a few days ago also announced the sale of a new pressure cooker induction, designed especially for cooking rice. Can be controlled via an app on your smartphone, you will be able to identify the type of rice, the brand, the source program and an ideal cooking system calibrated from time to time. It currently supports over 200 rice brands and nearly 2,500 cooking modes. The pot can also be set for cooking other dishes, such as pies, and has already been launched on the Chinese market April 6 at competitive cost about 140 euro.

It is unknown if this product will also be released in Europe, being clearly aimed at the Asian market, but certainly opens up an interesting perspective on the creation of devices of this kind elsewhere in the world.

4) Electro fork, a fork that the food hall with electricity

One of the worst eating habits is to abound with salt, a seasoning of which some can not do and which often exaggerates in quantity. Doctors constantly remind to avoid too tasty foods, dangerous for the cardiovascular system. But it is not always easy to know how to control. Within a few months, however, those who want to eliminate salt from your diet can do so thanks to Electro Fork, a fork 2.0 can stimulate the language of the user with the right electrical frequencies, simulating the effect of salt on food. Electricity is also able to enhance the acidity, flavor and texture of the food you are eating, improving the flavor in various aspects.

The creators are part of a project of the University of Tokyo, called No salt Restaurant, which has as its goal the reduction in the use of salt in the diet. The fork is not yet available to the public even if in March was tested in a Tokyo restaurant with more than satisfactory results.

5) The robotic lawnmower

the first home robot to have had some success in Europe was the now-famous Roomba, a sort of robotic vacuum cleaner can to move easily between the rooms of the house, gathering dust and dirt without the need of our help. The same principle has been applied for the creation of a robotic lawnmower, capable of running for our lawn and perfectly cut the grass without anyone should dirtying the hands. The first use involves the tracing of a fence at low voltage, so as to define the perimeter of the mower action with a kind of invisible fence, once fixed the correct area the device will do the heavier work. The only problem is the lack of a path ordained in grass clippings, making it impossible to create the grass parallel lines or grids ordered, but probably will not be a big problem for those who are interested in this kind of product. Robomow RS630 has a range of more than 70 minutes, which allow him to move for over 3000 square meters and is equipped with a dedicated application on both Android and iOS. The base price is 2350 Euros.
