to learn the new technological tools and their proper use by operations on corpses. From April 21 to 48 hours Arezzo hosts the seventh edition of the International * dissection course “hands-on” addressed to specialists in Neurosurgery of anatomical specimens, concerning the various approaches to cancer and cerebral vascular diseases. The focus of this year at the ICLO Foundation Laboratory of Arezzo, focuses mainly on the contribution of new technological tools, so far advanced as to allow a result never so precise.

“In the last 10 years, technological innovation has subverted the way of understanding and doing surgery, particularly the neurological – says Prof. Luciano Mastronardi, Director UOC Neurosurgery Hospital San Filippo Blacks in Rome – ASL Roma1 and President of the Italian Association of Anatomical Dissection (AIDA) – the main change was reported in the cerebral field, with cutting-edge tools that enable faster and more efficient procedures. From a production point of view Italy has been at the forefront than in countries around the world. The Italian structures, in fact, fail to embrace this change quickly, making them more effective and efficient services. “

NEW TOOLS – The endoscope has been for several years one of the main tools of technological change: in itself is not new, but its use is more and more precise and less invasive, to surprise positively. The most recent new features include visualization tools, cameras and HD video and / or 3D. The laser is also a tool by highly effective: although it was introduced in the eighties, in recent years have become even more effective and easier to handle, transmitting laser energy through an optical fiber, adapting to the mini-invasive and microscopic approaches, allowing precision and accuracy, reaching even the most hidden corners.

tHE IMPORTANCE oF tHE YEAR ON tHE CORPSE – “learning surgical techniques, especially the more complex ones, should be primarily on the body and only later on the patient – explains Prof. Mastronardi – E ‘in fact proven that the only way to prepare the interns and young specialists to a high-quality surgery without “experiment” or “test” in vivo it is the exercise on the body. This allows you to learn complex techniques from more experienced colleagues, to practice and check what has been learned and project it in everyday surgical practice, with obvious implications beneficial to patients in terms of efficacy and greater safety of the treatment.

tHE cOURSE – the course, lasting three days, it is characterized by lectures and practical exercises on anatomical specimens. The number of participants is limited to 18 specialized doctors in neurosurgery from many parts of the world, who can live an extraordinary opportunity in contact with colleagues from around the world and the comparison between European schools. The focus dedicated to technological devices, from laser endoscopes, ultrasonic aspirators by new sophisticated neurophysiological equipment, knowledge of which is indispensable for the correct use on the patient with brain cancer.

WHAT ‘tHE NEUROCHIRURGIA
– the Neurosurgery (Surgical Neurology) is a specialty of surgery dedicated to the treatment of pathological conditions and diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system and spine and its contents. Therefore, any surgical procedure that affects the nervous system and its “envelopes” (skull, spine, meninges) is practiced by the Neurosurgeon.

Among the benign brain tumors, meningiomas and schwannomas are the most common ones and affect patients in each age group. New technologies have made it possible in recent years a more effective microsurgical treatment and very often decisive of these tumors, reducing morbidity, ie the appearance postoperative temporary deficits responsible or sometimes permanent. The hardship fund of Regions oblige the professionals to be familiar with new technologies and to use them when really necessary and indispensable and courses like this teach young neurosurgeons of domaniAggiungi a new appointment for tomorrow how and when to use the new tools that the medical engineering offers us .
