Savona . The curtain falls on the issue of the draft 2014 Open Factories that, this year, shows a consolidation of the percentage of kids-oriented training scientific technology. A fact welcomed by the organizers of Open Factories and especially by companies Savona, always on the lookout for professionalism in these areas. “But the result of this edition is really significant growth in the percentage of girls interested in a job in the industry, though it remains heightened their inclination towards the humanities” added the promoters of the initiative.

This figure largely in line with the aims of the project Open Factories, wanted and produced in partnership by the Province of Savona, the Savona Chamber of Commerce and Industry Union of the Province of Savona, in collaboration with the Port Authority of Savona and Vado, which aims to guide students in junior high to a more informed choice of school education thanks to a direct knowledge of Savona companies and their requirements in terms of jobs and skills.

To the seventh consecutive year, the Open has conducted about 800 boys, 31 classes from 12 comprehensive schools, and their teachers, with the support of the Association of Young Science, visiting 14 companies Savona industry leader, with a formula that successfully combines business visits, in-depth class, part of the game and competition, as well as a survey conducted at the end of the visits to assess the impact of the initiative on youth.

Among the novelties of 2014 , stands the growth of girls who want to work in the industry, with a rate which stands at 76%, compared to 66.80% of their male peers. Among other options, always current medical and scientific professions, then small business enterprises (with 10.8%) and manual labor and craft (12.25%). The sporting career is the dream of many, especially in males with 6.1% compared to 3.4% of the girls, still very prone to teaching (26%). All the young men are, however, agree on the main criterion for selection of their work: 52% said that it should be something you like, in line with their attitudes, and only secondarily to ensure a good salary (38.5%).

To achieve this goal, it is essential to have clear ideas about schooling, especially in an age that requires students to choose a course of higher education, however, in the vast majority already identified. 70% of respondents, in fact, has already decided which school to attend: 54% of students will opt for an address technical sciences (93.6% for males); 46% for a humanities course (85% in girls).

This is the most concrete result of Open Factories, which recognizes the commitment of the Industrial Union and its partners in the last seven years, are particularly increased at high school students enrolled in technical-scientific, going to increase the pool of expertise to draw upon when companies Savona in the search for appraisers, engineers, chemists, biologists and many other graduates in engineering and science.

Among the requirements that students have researched the companies visited in the first place stands the environment, perceived as well as to protect and enhance through regulatory compliance, but also through the use of new skills dedicated. Nearly 90% of teens surveyed currency is very important for an industry, to respect the environment; 84% believe that, in the companies visited, this happens (perception in growth compared to 78% last year). Merit also of the latest technologies used by the industry Savona, which have fascinated the 66% of the students.

Once the visits, the final round will take place as usual with two events: May 28 in Savona and on June 4 in Cairo Montenotte, with the awarding of 31 winners (one for each class participant) of the game “Conquest of a scientific mind.” It will be the occasion to present the film made by the children, as a video reporter during visits to Open Factories. The 12 institutes including the territory that have participated are: Savona, Savona II, III Savona, Albisole, Albenga, Finale Ligure, Cairo Montenotte, Carcare, Millwall, Quiliano, Spotorno and Vado Ligure.
