Yahoo Mail requires a password change - Computer Point

raid to emails in purple was conducted using a username and password to third-party service, users recycle too often. Yahoo will ask you to re-identify

Rome – An attack which is not yet known the extent, scope large enough to have pushed Yahoo to alert their users and to trigger a reset of passwords: the ad is been issued in the past few hours on the company’s official Tumblr.

It would not be an offensive waged directly against the systems of Yahoo, or at least there is no evidence to prove it: it seems that crackers have gained access to a third-party database (or maybe have exploited the data circulating on the Net after one of the many recent attacks), containing details of accounts and passwords for services other than those of Yahoo. Catching up on the lever but a nasty habit of users to recycle the data across the services to which they are registered, the perpetrators of the attack would attempt to gain access to Yahoo email using passwords used elsewhere.

L ‘operation of crackers, she’d probably aim for the roundup of other contacts for sale on the market of spam and phishing, and to be exploited for identity theft, it seems to be successful, judging by the mobilization of Yahoo, “we immediately activated to protect our users – make sure the official post – requesting a reset passwords for accounts affected. ” The cancellation of the password will be accompanied by the re-identification with the help of secondary contacts provided by users, while an investigation was initiated to identify and prosecute those responsible for the raid, and while they have been implemented new security measures to complicate life attackers.

Waiting to know the full story on the offensive, the recommendations provided to users are always the same: choose wisely passwords, change them regularly and differentiate between different services. A warning evidently necessary.
