Xbox One: a leap into the future, with an eye to the past ... - The Messenger

We

. Just a few more days and the new generation of consoles officially move the first steps. On November 22, Microsoft released the Xbox One. A week later, on the 29th, will be the time of the debut of its rival, the Sony Play Station 4. A war that started months ago, and that could revolutionize the gaming world as we know it.

Today we got our hands on the new jewel of the Redmond gaming, the Xbox One. From a first approach, the most obvious change concerns the controller: analog sticks softer and more manageable, keys slightly closer together, “triggers” more functional rear and two front vibration (linked to triggers) and two rear. Finally, Microsoft has introduced the traditional keys, such as those much loved by gamers than once. Too bad that this time the gamepad is powered by AA batteries, and the “Play and charge kit”, I mean the one with cable and rechargeable battery, it is virtually essential, although not included in the original package. On the other hand, however, the Xbox One comes bundled with Kinect, much improved compared to the previous year. The sensor is able to recognize themselves up to six users, even simultaneously, and allows you to control your console to voice or gestures.

The Xbox One has three operating systems: one dedicated to gaming, one the TV and other features, and a third that is used to quickly switch from first to second. It is a ploy that is likely to “weigh” the hardware of the console, but that is functional in achieving one of the key objectives of the Xbox One: to become “the” device, the only one in the living room, the one around which all other rotate. Therefore, the console is also equipped with an HDMI input, through which you can also connect the decoder and therefore also control your TV. The Xbox One should not have overheating problems that have done so much damn owners of the Xbox 360 has been fitted with a large fan that would permit (or so they swear to Microsoft) to keep the system turned on for many hours without any problems.

But let’s get to the games. The most awaited exclusive Xbox One is probably “Ryse: Son of Rome,” which has as its protagonist a Roman centurion and from which we expect a high rate of spectacle. The version, not final, we tried, actually shows a surprising level of detail: it runs at 1080p with 60 native frame rate (frame rate), an index that those who know the game well acquainted, and which establishes the definition and fluidity. For now a level never reached by the console, but that will be offered on Xbox One is from “Ryse” that other exclusive Microsoft, “Forza Motosport 5″. Now it only remains to be seen whether and how game developers will fully exploit its potential. Also because Microsoft’s console costs a hundred euro more than the Play Station 4 (EUR 499 against 399). The Redmond company swears that they are money well spent. The last word, on November 22, the real experts: gamers.
