CTV presents documentary: “Shroud. The story of a mystery” – Vatican Radio

In preparation for the visit of Pope Francesco in Turin on 21 and 22 June next, was presented to the press today the DVD: “Shroud. Story of a mystery “made by the Vatican Television Centre with the Workshop of Communication. Tomorrow will be also available on newsstands and then visible on Tv2000 and Sky. There was for us Benedetta Hair :

“In the disfigured face of the Shroud we see the suffering of the weakest and immerse ourselves in the silence of love.” The words of Pope Francis, uttered two years ago on the occasion of the Exposition of the Shroud television, they seem to drive the documentary made by CTV with the Workshop of Communication. It ‘a plunge into the mystery, without the intention to propose a thesis, without choosing to have a scientific perspective or faith, but simply placing before the Holy Shroud with all eyes possible and thus reveal puzzles and secrets. Mons. Dario Edoardo Viganò , director of the Vatican Television Center:

R. – And the story of a mystery because the cloth of the Shroud is a mystery both in dating, but also for what it represents. For us believers, regardless of the results of science, this Lino is the reference to a man who suffered who was killed in the cross and see clearly the man of the Gospels. For an unbeliever becomes simply a canvas on which to make new studies. This documentary has been prepared ahead of the visit of Pope Francesco in Turin and become an important opportunity for catechesis for a discussion. After all, the Shroud often splits: who is for or who is against. I believe that the Shroud image as the rich look of the beholder. And for us connotarlo a Christian means recognizing there a mystery which is the mystery of Christ dead and risen, and especially, as the Pope says Francis, more than looking at the Shroud, more than a curious glance, is a look that is attracted by the look of the Shroud .

The project was realized thanks to the contribution of the writer Marco Roncalli and the Vatican correspondent of “La Stampa” Andrea Tornielli :

R. – I think it’s an attempt to give the viewer a path that enters into the mystery of the Shroud, leaving aside the opposing arguments – about the authenticity or non-authenticity – but stopping the image, of what it contains. And is an image that, objectively, it remains mysterious how it was formed and remains above all a faithful mirror of the story of the Gospels of the Passion. This is why millions of people go to see the Shroud. The point, however, is the mystery of the image, and what this evokes and recalls.

A job that was, for Andrea Tornielli, a personal experience:

R. – I made a book, a first time in 2010, following quell’ostensione and, since then, do so many meetings to accompany the people who go to see the exposition, in this way with a previous preparation. It is one thing that strikes me very much: I believe that the Shroud does not leave anyone indifferent if one gets in front. As for attempts to analyze the Shroud, in view of the authenticity or non-authenticity, it is right that science face all his steps and fulfill all the evidence that has to make. I repeat, in my opinion, there is also a value that is independent from all this scientific discourse. First, it is not proven in any way the falsity of the Shroud, just as it has proven its authenticity. There is no evidence that it is a fake and there are many things that go against the idea also is a fake. To date, in fact – in 2015 – no one was able to reproduce this in a satisfactory way: no one is able to make a copy of the Shroud with the knowledge we have today. So perhaps today, even more than 50 years ago, we can say that there is a mystery behind that image.

Singular synergy with “Famiglia Cristiana” and “Believe” but especially with the Turin daily newspaper “La Stampa” and “Il Secolo XIX” that in the Piedmont-Liguria and Valle d’Aosta will attach the DVD copies of newspapers . On June 21, when the Pope will be in Turin, the documentary will be seen on TV in 2000 while on Sky3D will air a special of 15 minutes in which they propose the image of the Man of the Shroud and the technologies of “modeling” and of advanced techniques that have examined the three-dimensional information imprinted in the negative of the cloth. An absolute novelty that does not want to act as a scientific work. Still Mgr. Viganò :

R. – This is a new experience, a post-production that was made possible by a technology team very refined. And it is for the first time the presentation of the virtual three-dimensional image of the body that has been wrapped by Lino. Therefore, it represents a first step in what maybe the future will.
