17:13 May 23, 2013 Into (AGI) – Washington, May 23 – NASA has provided a research grant to develop a prototype of a 3D printer for food, so that the astronauts could one day enjoy a pizza on Mars. The funding and ‘went to Anan Contractor, a senior mechanical engineer of Systems and Materials Research Corporation of Austin, Texas, which received $ 125,000 to build a prototype of “food synthesizer.” NASA hopes the technology could one day be used to feed astronauts o n space travel. Dividing the various components of food (carbohydrates, protein, micro and macro nutrients, all in powder) in various “cartridges”, would be theoretically possible to allow users to mix, as the ingredients in recipes normal, so as to create different foods.
