Next stop: Piazza San Giorgio. Saturday night, night in white in the library
For a special evening, to Saturday, April 11, the San Giorgio Library will turn into a real covered square, proposing in a robe festive and full of opportunities for small and large. Exceptionally open until after midnight, the San Giorgio organizes this year its traditional “white night” of the spring, without waiting for the anniversary of the birthday (which falls on April 23rd), but in anticipation of the feast to 11 April, in order to share with all citizens the experience more immersive “Reading the city”.
They are well organized 68 appointments during the evening special, which will feature the many “allies” with which the library has worked for years, designing with them the realization of cultural events. These include a starring role will be played by the Friends of the San Giorgio, who will organize markets, building workshops toys, creative activities and workshops will take care, as usual, the space dedicated to the game of chess. Numerous in-depth meetings on “how we were”, the conference on the ancient games of Pistoia with Francesca Rafanelli (eds FIDAPA) the conversation Andrea Ottanelli on the history of ancient Officine San Giorgio. Particular attention will be devoted to the world of “organic”, with tastings, wine tastings and conversations with experts on the cultivation of orchards and gardens, on the herbs and wild flowers. As in a real square, there will be artists grappling with painting “en plein air”, dancers of street dance (hip hop break dancing), dancers of folk dances, photographers who live will explain the techniques of street photography. The young will learn by playing, the secrets of the collection (with Publiambiente), while the older ones can dial a special puzzle dedicated to Pistoia or participate in a workshop building nesting boxes for birds, using pieces of wood obtained from the many trees slaughtered after Hurricane of 5 March. Of such disasters will be discussed in a special meeting, in which Silvana Agostini and the Friends of the San Giorgio show a gallery of photographs taken during and immediately after that tragic night.
A special area will be dedicated to the Friends of the Yellow, which will offer throughout the evening a rich program of meetings, performances and readings around the theme of space in yellow. It will also be expected – in representation of intimate space, as opposed to public space – a course of autobiographical writing held by the expert Laura Lenti. A special area will be offered to the “friends Pelosetta”, which will have volunteers dell’OIPA Pistoia paladins stronger in defense of their rights of citizenship; will also discuss the city behind bars, providing a collection of books and movies to be allocated to the library of the Prison of Pistoia.
In the metaphor of the square is called also the cycle of events “Art Stop”: true “stops” calendarizzate at different hours of the evening, which you can find to take a guided tour to the various works of art inside the library. At each stop, Catherine of Beyond Beauty Pistoia tell those present of the individual work of art included in the special tour, in some cases accompanied by the artist who created it.
And since the concept of the square is also true in the virtual world, a large space will be given to the squares on the network: the facebook group “Not Pistoia if …” will organize a rally during which will be shown pictures of the Pistoia yesterday and today, as well as the group of Instagramers Pistoia will talk about the relationship between photography and architecture. The technology will have a significant space thanks to the proposals of YouLab Pistoia, the center of technological innovation funded the US Embassy in Rome, which will be present with its more senior members to reward with a loan of 10,000 euro group “The Bombi” of ‘ITTS “Silvano Fedi-Enrico Fermi”, who are leaving for St. Louis, to participate in the final of the Lego League. YouLab offer workshops throughout the evening programming for children and adults.
A first for the San Giorgio is finally represented by the Human Library, or Living Library: in an ideal shelf, made with the cooperation of the ATP, will be placed people in the flesh, which can be “borrowed “for 10 minutes to be those who will want to hear their story, and then be transported back to the shelf.
The soundtrack of the evening will be entrusted with the musical group “The airplanes”, which will perform covers of famous songs, and Mabellini Jazz Band, which will perform in the concert “The Ladies in Jazz”.
The “tasting in the streets” of products of local and zero distance, thanks to the collaboration of ConfCommercio Pistoia and Field Association, concluded, together with the buffet 19:45 of the many reasons of attractiveness of an event that – now in its seventh edition – promises, like the previous years, as a much anticipated event and much liked by all Pistoia: between 5 and 6 thousand people expected in a day during which it will also possible for anyone to leave their “desire”, writing it in a large board with the title “The library that I would like.”

Around this mature reflection seminar “Libraries: from public space to space part” to be held Saturday, April 11 from 9 am to 13:15 in the auditorium of the library Terzani San Giorgio, within the broader framework of the event “Reading the city “, to be held in Pistoia 9 to 12 April with meetings and events on the theme #lospaziopubblico. The reading of the library as – in fact – “public space”, the physical, but also bibliographic and relationship will therefore be the heart of the initiative, which will also feature the theme of increasing active participation of citizens in the life of the library, not only in the usual terms of the users of services, but also and especially of active participants in the creation of the service itself. The library is a candidate that is to become a space in a profound sense of the city, or a place of representation of the city and self-representation of the community in which she lives: a community that no longer based its identity only on the roots of the tradition, but who builds this identity every day through the common choice of the future trajectories.

After the recording of entries, are expected at 9.45 institutional greetings by Elena Becheri, Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Pistoia, Chiara Silla, Director of Libraries of the Region of Tuscany and Sandra Di Majo, president of the Tuscan AIB. Starting at 10:15 will start interventions: Antonella Agnoli, consultant librarian will speak on “The squares of knowledge: eight years of reflections and experiences”, Marco Muscogiuri, Alterstudio Partners (Politecnico di Milano) will reflect on the theme “Designing Libraries / build community, “Maurizio Vivarelli, professor of library science (University of Turin) will treat the” Places of relationships. Interpreting the space of the library in a holistic perspective, “Sergio Dogliani, Deputy Head of Idea Store (London), by videoconference from London , will speak on “Idea Stores: cultural centers took from the people, for the people”, Anna Galluzzi, librarian (Senate Library, Rome) will talk about “Public space of the library.
