The much-awaited launch of the iPhone 5S and 5C in the shops of China Mobile has arrived. But the reception of consumers in Beijing and the surrounding area has been weak, at least judging by the fact that there have been long queues outside the shops to which the world had become accustomed when it comes to Apple products. Even the surprise appearance of Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, in one of the outlets in Beijing’s largest mobile operator in the world has supported the traffic. The successor to Steve Jobs wrote in a tweet, “I’m having fun” and autographed smartphones just bought a dozen customers. It seems that the group of Cupertino, once a iconic brand now crushed by competition from rivals such as Samsung, have to work hard to be able to conquer the larger slice of the market in which both eastern tip. It must be said though that there are at least four reasons for the lack of interest: today’s launch is not about the Apple Store but 3,000 outlets of China Mobile, to avoid the chaos, the reservations were necessary (Monday, the telephone operator will had received 1.2 million and more are arriving at the rate of 60,000 per day), it is not the first time that the iPhone 5s and 5c are sold in China (since last September are: distributed by the second and third mobile operator in the country, China Unicom and China Telecom), approximately 45 million China Mobile customers already own a smartphone Apple, purchased elsewhere and leaning to the old 2G network. But the strong point is that China Mobile is developing the network based on 4G tecnolgia while competitors still rely on the slowest of the previous generation. Will the operator to which it is linked Apple to steal customers from rivals? It all depends on prices, which in the case of China Mobile confirmed but less aggressive than the two smaller rivals. Who wants to buy an iPhone 5s with a contract for 24 months ends up paying 37% more for a similar plan offered by China Telecom and 17% in more than one contract with China Unicom.
